About the author

Hi, my name is Alex Kerr. I hope you enjoy this Blog and some of the ideas and discussions contained within it. If you have arrived at this page then you probably want to know a bit more about the author (me). Well read on and try not to fall asleep until you get to the end.

My interest in all things technical and online started at an early age when I decided to try and rewire an old Sinclair in my bedroom and was promptly thrown across the room with a 240v shock. Around the same time I was also renowned for trying to sell obscure things like den plans to people at school for which I was promptly put in detention for doing so. Since then I knew that my calling aired on the side of wiring, computers and marketing.

I started programming at the age of 18 and promptly moved in to web based application development and took a keen interest in business promotion online and began optimising sites for a few companies in order to supplement my income.

At the age of 20 I decided to go to the University of Sussex to take a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science with Management, I then joined the Charted Institute of IT. I graduated 4 years later with a firm grounding in everything from programming to rocket science, organisational structure to accounting, a diverse and very rewarding degree.

During my time at university I began developing online marketing strategies which involved pay per click and organic techniques to boost companies online presence. This turned out to be successful and meant I could afford not to have too much of a student loan.

I then decided to take a job in an overseas property investment company. I instantly saw that the companies exposure online was not the best and this meant they were missing out on highly lucrative revenue streams that can be brought about through the correct exposure and branding in the online world.

I started by persuading the decision makers to allow me to have a small budget per day to begin an Adwords campaign as this was the quickest and easiest way to deliver qualified leads in a relativity short space of time. This campaign proved to be a resounding success.  I then decided to develop a complete online commercial strategy for the company covering such things as paid advertising through to organic. Other such things in the strategy involved techniques to maximise things like user registrations, retention and repeat buying by way of transparent post registration marketing techniques. This increased the return on investment and so gave us more ‘bang per buck’.

Over the following 3 years the campaign generated a turnover of over £20,000,000 in property sales.

Years have passed since then and I have helped other companies (and continue to do so) establish themselves in the online world. Primarily by developing strategies to maximise their return on investment and progress customer relationships through to sales and beyond.

I have made this site in an effort to share some of my knowledge and experience with others who also have a keen interest in online marketing. Considering where the internet is going and the potential given the amount of people worldwide who are still not online, the possibilities for business applications are limitless.
