Top 5 search engine ranking factors
Filed Under (Off Page Factors, On Page Factors, SEO) by Alex Kerr on 28-07-2010
Search engine algorithms rank sites by certain factors, these can be split in to ‘on-page’ factors and ‘off-page’ factors. There are however five in my opinion which stand out head and shoulders above the rest:
- Anchor text which is keyword focused – the link to your site should contain the keyword for which you are trying to get ranked for.
- Link popularity from external sites – this relates to the number of incoming links as well as the page rank of the site that is linking to you.
- Link source diversity – Getting 10 links from 10 different site is better than 10 links from the same site. However, you must factor in how authoritative the site giving the incoming links is (like 10 from the BBC).
- Keyword in the title tag – Title tags and keywords are important because the algorithm can see that you have placed great importance on that keyword as it is contained in the title.
- Trustworthiness – This looks at the online reputation and trustworthiness of sites which link to yours.
Just remember there are lots more factors that can impact your position in the organic results of the search engines but as long as you get these right your on the way to the ‘golden triangle’.

Very good consise summary. I should think that the importance varies a little bit on which kind of phrases it is, and that this is for phrases with rather high competition. (For phrases with low competition I think that the Title-tag should come higher up in the list.)
Thanks for information about Top 5 search engine ranking factors……….
